Hebrews 3:13 - But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.Įncouragement can be an antidote for the deceitful nature of sin and the hardening of our hearts to God. En-courage, by putting His courage in us through His presence. This is one of my favorite, most encouraging promises of God! God promises to infuse us with courage through His presence. Do not be afraid do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9 - Have I not commanded you? Be strong* and courageous. Our relationship with God is a source of constant encouragement to believers as we live in the world while also becoming more and more like Jesus everyday. 1 Peter 2:4-5 - As you come to him, the living Stone-rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him- you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. “But what is encouragement? Is it just a thumbs up or fist bump when your neighbor does a good job?”Įncouragement is defined in this verse as “building others up–it’s important our words benefit and add value to those who hear them. This verse provides a helpful key to the command of 1 Thessalonians to encourage one another. Ephesians 4:29 - Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
